Volusia County Schools Proposes Enhanced Compensation Package

At the Sept. 22 bargaining session, Volusia County Schools presented an updated compensation proposal focused on attracting, retaining, and supporting high-quality employees.

The district's proposal includes:

• A $3 increase to retention pay
• A 2% increase to supplements
• A 1.05% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for all bargaining unit members, including first-year teachers
• Increases for employees with 10 or more years of service matching compensation to the TSIA allocation
• Salary increases for employees in years 1-9
• One additional day of bereavement leave
• Ten consecutive workdays of paid parental leave

These proposals are in addition to the previously agreed-upon allocation of Teacher Salary Increase Allocation (TSIA) funding. Prior to full collective bargaining, the district and Volusia United Educators reached a tentative agreement on the distribution of TSIA funds, which required an additional $611,111 investment from the district's general fund. Prior to today, the District also agreed to a $3,000 salary increase for speech-language pathologists.

In addition to compensation discussions, the district and Volusia United Educators tentatively agreed on Article 15: Transfers and Vacancies, marking continued progress in contract negotiations.

Together, the district's proposals represent a significant recurring investment in employees while maintaining the district's commitment to fiscal responsibility and long-term financial stability.

The next bargaining session is scheduled for Oct. 6.
