DeLand, FL – Volusia County Schools (VCS) proudly announces a significant achievement in its high school graduation rates for the 2023-2024 academic year. The School District saw its graduation rate increase to an impressive 93.7%, up from 91.6% in the previous year. This marks a 2.1-percentage point increase and the second consecutive year of growth for the district.
Volusia County’s graduation rate is now 4 percentage points higher than the state average of 89.7%. Of the 67 school districts across the state, VCS ranks in the top ten. Additionally, Volusia ranks second within the Central Florida Coalition (CFC) of school districts.
“We are thrilled with the continued success of our students and the efforts of our dedicated educators,” said Dr. Carmen Balgobin, Superintendent of Volusia County Schools. “This increase in graduation rates reflects the hard work and commitment of our students, families, faculty, and staff. These results prove that when we work together as a community, we can achieve remarkable things.”
Key highlights from the 2023-2024 graduation data include:
- Deltona High School reached a perfect graduation rate of 100%
- Pine Ridge High School saw a 4.4 percentage point increase, from 93.4% in 2022-2023 to 97.8%
- Nine of the district’s 10 traditional high schools saw improvements in graduation rates
- The district is among the top 10 districts in the state for its overall graduation rate
In addition to overall improvements, Volusia County experienced notable growth across several demographic groups:
- White students increased by 2.2 percentage points
- Black students increased by 1.9 percentage points
- Hispanic students saw a 3.1-percentage point increase
- Economically disadvantaged students also saw growth, increasing by 3 percentage points
- And students with disabilities saw a 2-percentage point increase
These gains reflect the district’s ongoing efforts to give high-quality educational opportunities to all students. VCS continues to prioritize student success and is committed to providing the resources and support necessary to ensure every student graduates ready for success in college, careers, and life.
