VCS College and Career Acceleration Rate Increases for Second Consecutive Year

DELAND – Volusia County Schools (VCS) is proud to announce that the district’s College and Career Acceleration (CCA) Rate for the Class of 2024 has increased to 66.7%, marking a 1-percentage-point increase from the previous year’s rate of 65.7%.

The CCA rate represents the percentage of high school graduates who have earned college credit or career certifications by the time they graduate. This growth reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to preparing students for postsecondary success through advanced coursework, industry certifications, and dual enrollment opportunities.

Among the district’s 11 high schools, seven saw an increase in College and Career Acceleration rates. Notably:

  • Deltona High School led the district with an acceleration rate of 88.3%.
  • Volusia Online Learning experienced the most significant year-over-year increase, jumping 14.9 percentage points from 65.9% to 80.8%.
  • Three schools recorded double-digit gains:
  • Volusia Online Learning: 14.9-percentage-point increase
  • T. Dewitt Taylor Middle-High School: 12.1-percentage-point increase
  • University High School: 10.2-percentage-point increase

In addition to overall growth, VCS saw notable increases in acceleration rates across various student demographics, including English Language Learners, Hispanic students, and White students.

“Volusia County Schools remains dedicated to ensuring every student is equipped with the skills and credentials needed for future success,” Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin stated. “These improvements highlight the hard work of our students, teachers and staff in creating strong pathways for college and career readiness.”
