Registration for Spring Driver Education Begins Jan. 8 

DELAND – Registration for the 2026 Spring Driver Education program begins on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 8 p.m., on the school district driver’s education website. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and closes at 8:15 p.m. If the class meets the enrollment capacity, a waiting list will be started.  

Students interested in earning credit in Driver Education must register online. There is no fee for the program, and students will receive a paperless waiver of the road test for an operator’s license.  The driver’s education information brochures are available on the school district driver’s education website.   

Students must have and present their learner's license on the first day of class. 

The after-school program will begin on Monday, Jan. 26, and will end on Tuesday, May 5. The class will be held from 3:45-6:15 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. Dates and times may be adjusted by schools due to teaching conflicts and travel. Students need to wear closed-toe shoes for the class. There will be no classes during the week of March 16 due to Spring Break. The program will tentatively be offered at the following two high schools: 

  • Mainland High, 1255 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach 
  • DeLand High, 800 N. Hill Ave., DeLand 

The Saturday program will begin on Jan. 24 and will end on April 11. The class will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Times may be adjusted slightly as the course progresses. Students need to bring a lunch each day and wear closed-toe shoes for the class. There will be no classes on the following dates: Feb. 14, March 14, and March 21. 

The program will tentatively be offered at the following three high schools: 

  • Pine Ridge High, 926 Howland Blvd., Deltona 
  • Spruce Creek High, 801 Taylor Road, Port Orange 
  • University High School, 1000 W. Rhode Island Ave., Orange City 

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • All students currently enrolled in a Volusia County public school, School of Choice, private school, or who are in the home-school program and who are eligible to drive will be given the opportunity to enroll in driver education as seats are available. 
  • Students must be 15 years or older on or before the first day of the session for which the student is enrolled and must have completed one full year of high school on or before the first day of the session. 
  • Students must have a current learner’s license when registering.  Students must also have their learner’s license with them during each day of class. 
  • Students must not have already received credit for a driver education. 

Funding for this program is made available through the Dori Slosberg Driver Education Trust Fund.  No district funds will be used to fund this program.
