Seniors currently enrolled in Economics class participated in an educational and inspiring event called the "Reality Fair". Hosted by the local VStar Credit Union, with volunteers from a variety of members of the South Daytona/Port Orange Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, students role played the life of a 25 year old. Students were given different life scenarios and had to live through a month of bills, taxes and life events. Members from VStar and the Chamber mentored students at each booth (representing facets of life from child care costs to the power company) and they had to make smart financial choices to get through their "month" with money to spare. Students learned about financial aid, building credit and the importance of saving money.
Though this activity was an engaging way to educate our seniors about financial literacy, the impact that the students had speaking with our volunteers was monumental. Both the students and our community business leaders enjoyed their mentoring moments together.
We appreciate their time, support and care during our Reality Fair!
