VCS Students Display Artwork in New Smyrna Beach Businesses
NEW SMYRNA BEACH – Volusia County Schools and businesses in the Canal Street Historic District are partnering to display student artwork inside local establishments.
Seven businesses and organizations are currently displaying prints of original pieces created by students from New Smyrna Beach and Spruce Creek high schools. The artwork will be rotated every 3-5 months to provide an opportunity to spotlight the work of more students and allow business patrons to see the diverse talent being developed by art teachers in local schools.
“It is so important for the students, their parents and the public to see the artwork exhibited in the community. It highlights everything we do in visual arts,” said Bryce Hammond, VCS Visual Arts Specialist. “This partnership is providing students the opportunity to experience the feeling of being a professional artist.”
The Hub on Canal has been displaying New Smyrna Beach High student artwork for years and offers the work for sale. All proceeds are returned to the high school art program.
“We appreciate Frieda’s Esthetics, Nature in Beauty, New Smyrna Beach Brewing Co., Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce, Studio Vezza Maggiore, The Hub on Canal, and White Whale Real Estate for being part of the inaugural roll out of this program,” said Nancy Wait, VCS Facilitator of Volunteer/Partnership Programs. “The district hopes to expand the partnership to other municipalities and provide more opportunities for students throughout the district.”
