Volusia County Schools will be recognizing National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day on Monday, May 6th. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the efficacy of community-based mental health services for children, youth, young adults, and their families. Together we can demonstrate how children's mental health initiatives promote positive youth development, recovery, resilience, and show how children, youth, and young adults with mental disorders can flourish in their communities.
In observance of this day, a Mental Health Symposium will be hosted on May 6th at Spruce Creek High School beginning at 5:30pm. Community providers, mental health professionals and school personnel will be on hand to provide families with resources and valuable information concerning mental wellness. Volusia County School staff, students and employees will wear "green" to raise awareness of the importance of mental wellness.
Volusia County Schools is excited to partner with the Department of Children and Families, Halifax Health, AdventHealth and the International Speedway Corporation to bring awareness to youth mental health by turning the International Speedway sign "green" in observance. Our hope is that by observing National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day, we can bring to the forefront the importance of caring for every child's mental health and reinforce that positive mental health is essential to a child's healthy development.
