Important Updates for Volusia Online Learning Families
All families who registered for full-time VOL for fall 2020 have now been assigned their teacher(s), with the possible exception of PE and elective courses. The vast majority of students have met their teachers virtually and are now working on coursework. IF your family registered for full-time VOL and has not heard from a teacher or staff member at VOL, there is a good chance they are not successfully enrolled in Volusia Online Learning. To check, families should first reach out to their regular school of enrollment to determine whether the student is enrolled there. If they are not enrolled at the regular school of enrollment and still plan to attend VOL full-time, the parent should then email the designated VOL contact as follows:
- Elementary – Melissa Shaw at email@example.com
- Middle School – Christina Wiseman at firstname.lastname@example.org
- High School – Kevin Clark at email@example.com
Accessing Your Schedule
Most schedules are done. VOL is finalizing some schedules and schedule changes today and Friday. Instructions for how students can access their schedules by logging into Canvas is available on the VOL Frequently Asked Questions at: www.vcsedu.org/news/volusia-online-learning-faqs. For additional assistance, please email the contacts listed above by grade level.
Core Courses for Full-Time VOL Elementary Students
At the elementary level, VOL is continuing to add missing core courses to full-time VOL students’ schedules every day. As the new courses are added, parents receive an email and must quickly complete the FLVS Profile Completion process on the Florida Virtual School platform. It is important for parents to check their email, including junk folders, daily. FLVS Profile Completion must be completed within 24 hours. IF the password expires, please contact your teacher for assistance. DO NOT register for a new FLVS account. Setting up a new account will delay the enrollment process.
Electives for Full-Time VOL Students (All Levels)
Electives for full-time VOL students at all levels (elementary, middle and high school) are being added this week, and all electives are expected to be loaded into the platforms no later than Monday, Sept. 21. Families should continue to check their schedules for updates daily. For electives in FLVS, you will receive an email from your teacher with instructions. Please follow the instructions closely to set up your account.
Information for Part-Time VOL Students (All Levels)
Courses for part-time VOL students at all levels (elementary, middle and high school) is now under way, facilitated by the student’s regular school of enrollment. Families who enrolled in part-time VOL should hear from their school of enrollment soon, if they have not already. Once the schedules are approved by the guidance counselor, the courses will be loaded to the platforms. For courses located on the FLVS platform, parents will receive an email and must quickly complete the FLVS Profile Completion process on the Florida Virtual School platform. It is important for parents to check their email, including junk folders, daily. FLVS Profile Completion must be completed within 24 hours. IF the password expires, please contact your teacher for assistance. DO NOT register for a new FLVS account. Setting up a new account will delay the enrollment process. For courses in the Edgenuity or Canvas platforms (middle and high only), courses can be accessed via the student’s VPortal Dashboard using the Edgenuity Student or Canvas tiles.
Definition of a Part-Time VOL Student
There has been some confusion about the definition of a part-time VOL student. The part-time VOL program requires a student to take some of their courses through their regular school of enrollment, either in the Traditional Classroom Setting or through Volusia Live. Part-time VOL students may take up to four additional classes through VOL each semester.
Full-Time Enrollment for Fall 2020 Now Closed
Enrollment into full-time Volusia Online Learning is now closed for the fall 2020 semester. Part-time enrollment into VOL is accepted any time, though families are advised that setting up classes in the part-time program is taking longer than usual due to high fall enrollment. Students enrolled in VOL part-time cannot transfer to full-time enrollment until the semester that begins Jan. 26, 2021.
Families should contact their teacher(s) with any questions. The teacher is the best point of contact for VOL. And remember to check your emails daily for any important updates.
