Important Updates: 9/11/2020
We want to share some important updates about fall athletics, Free meals, Volusia Online Learning, and safety and health procedures.
We are excited to announce that after a delayed start to the fall athletics season, our first football games will be Sept. 18! We are implementing some changes due to COVID-19. All tickets must be purchased in advance, and the number of tickets is limited. Tickets can be purchased electronically through the GoFan website Monday through Wednesday (each school will publicize the link particular to their game) at a cost of $6 per ticket plus $1 service fee. While supplies last, tickets can be purchased at school Thursday and until 4 p.m. Friday at a cost of $6. Tickets will not be sold at the gate.
Stadium capacity will be limited to allow for social distancing, and face coverings and temperature checks will be required. Concessions will offer pre-packaged items. Bands will participate in home games only. The football teams and sideline cheerleaders will attend both home and away games. The health and safety procedures will apply to all fall sports – football, girls’ volleyball, cross country, swimming and diving, golf, and bowling.
Volusia Online Learning Update
For Volusia Online Learning, the vast majority of full-time VOL students now have their schedules and login information and have started their classes. We continue to work with our part-time students to get their schedules finalized and expect them to start very soon. The good news is these courses are self-paced, and students will be given ample time to work and will not be penalized for the late start. We have a full team of teachers and administrators working around the clock to get all of our VOL students off to a good start.
The deadline to request schedule changes is Friday, September 18.
Curbside Meal Service
USDA has extended the meal program that allows all children in schools and the community to eat for free through Dec. 18. Students attending in-person classes are now receiving breakfast and lunch meals at no charge. For children not attending in-person classes, including those in VOL and Volusia Live, there is a free, weekly curbside meal service with 5 breakfast and 5 lunch meals. Parents must sign up for the curbside meal service every week. More information can be found at the following news article: USDA Extends Free Meals Through December 18.
And last, but not least, we want to remind everyone of the proper way to wear a face shield. Face shields should wrap around the sides of the wearer’s face and extend below the chin.
