Administrators Honored with Patriot Awards
Part of Florida Army National Guard Field Artillery Officer Josh Page’s support team are his school family at Discovery Elementary School.
Page is a school counselor at Discovery. In 2018, when Page’s unit was deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Spartan Shield and Operation Inherent Resolve, his administration took on a support role.
“Discovery Elementary not only supported both me and my family during my entire deployment, but they also made it possible for me to return to my same position when I redeployed home,” Page said. “In response to their steadfast support of my training evolutions, hurricane duties, and this deployment, I nominated Ms. Kimberly Feltner, Ms. Aria Haire, and Ms. Amanda Wiles for the ESGR Patriot Award.”
Assisted by School Board Member Ruben Colon, Page presented the Patriot Awards on Dec. 18. The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
Wiles was principal of Discovery when Page left on deployment, and Feltner was principal when he returned. Haire was assistant principal. All three are in different administrative roles at Volusia County Schools now, and Page is back in his position at Discovery.
“Their support from home was my mission success overseas, and I will forever be grateful,” Page said.
