NOTICE OF INTENDED ACTION BY SCHOOL BOARD OF VOLUSIA COUNTY

POLICY NUMBER: 403 

POLICY TITLE:  Assessments of Performance 

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The Florida Department of Education mandates that the school district must establish performance criteria and policy for the Best and Brightest Recognition Award. The proposed policy establishes the performance criteria and outlines which K-12 instructional personnel will receive the recognition award.

SUMMARY OF THE ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THIS POLICY:  There is no economic impact on any agency or individual other than the cost of promulgating and disseminating this policy.    

CONSIDERATION BY THE SCHOOL BOARD OF VOLUSIA COUNTY: The proposed action will be considered by the School Board of Volusia County at the meeting to be held by the School Board on April 28, 2020 at the DeLand Administrative Complex, 200 North Clara Avenue, DeLand, Florida. The School Board shall set aside time for the purpose of receiving comment on the proposed action on or about 3:30pm. Speakers will be given up to three minutes to provide comment, in accordance with Volusia County School Board Policy 801. If any affected person under section 120.54, Florida Statutes, would like to request a hearing in order to present evidence and argument on any issue under consideration in the revision of the policy, he/she must submit such request in writing to the Agency Clerk, Ms. Erin Leben, at 200 North Clara Avenue, DeLand, Florida, 32720. The request must be received by the Agency Clerk no later than 5 p.m., April 14, 2020.

IF A PERSON DECIDES TO APPEAL ANY DECISION MADE BY THE SCHOOL BOARD WITH RESPECT TO ANY MATTER CONSIDERED AT SUCH HEARING, HE/SHE WILL NEED A RECORD OF THE PROCEEDING, AND THAT, FOR SUCH PURPOSE, HE/SHE MAY NEED TO ENSURE THAT A VERBATIM RECORD OF THE PROCEEDINGS IS MADE, WHICH RECORD INCLUDES THE TESTIMONY AND EVIDENCE UPON WHICH THE APPEAL IS TO BE BASED.

POLICY TITLE:  Establishment of Attendance Areas 

PURPOSE AND EFFECT:  A public hearing on the proposed School Attendance Zone amendments will be held at the school board meeting scheduled for April 28, 2020, specifically amending School Attendance Zones for L.S. McInnis Elementary School, Pierson Elementary School, Freedom Elementary School, W.A. Hurst Elementary School, Pathways Elementary School and T.D. Taylor Middle/High School. Amendments for School Attendance Zones were presented at the November 12, 2019 and December 10, 2019 School Board Workshops. If any person decides to appeal any decision made by the school board with respect to any matter considered at said meeting, he will need to record the proceedings and, for such purpose, he may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
