Home Education

Thank you for your interest in Volusia County Public School’s home education program. Home education is in lieu of attending a public, charter, or private school. Home education is 100% parent driven.  By enrolling in home education, the parent is assuming all educational responsibilities regardless of the mechanism used to educate their child.  This includes all curriculum, books, or on-line curriculum (Volusia Online Learning, FLVS FLEX).  The Home Education Office does not have access to any of the above third party educational records.

Upon deciding to establish and maintain a home education program for your child, you will be governed by Florida statutes regarding compulsory school age attendance laws as they relate to home education.
Students with a prior pattern of public school non-attendance may be subject to monthly portfolio reviews. 

We are available to help you get started effectively in this program within the established parameters of the law.  If we can be of further assistance, please contact your designated office specialist.

• This program does not provide books, curriculum, or materials.
• Students enrolled in the Home Education Program do not receive a high school diploma or certificate of completion.

Please Note: An application to Home School is NOT REQUIRED if you want to attend Volusia Online Learning as a full-time student.​

Join the Volusia Online Learning (VOL) community of homeschoolers. We provide Kindergarten-12th grade homeschool students a variety of flexible options. Create or complement your home education curriculum with a range of courses and plan your own schedule with support from our certified teachers and counselors. Homeschool students can choose from many courses that offer instruction from dedicated teachers in core subjects, electives, and honors at no cost.

For VOL homeschoolers, parents are in charge of their students’ home education program, which must comply with Florida Home Education statutes, including annual evaluation requirements (f.s. 1002.41).
