Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK)
“Lay the foundation for educational success by promoting a positive school experience where all young students will be prepared to enter school by providing quality education through school readiness services.”
Studies have shown that students who attend Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) generally do significantly better in kindergarten than students who have not participated in a prekindergarten school readiness program. VPK is a free, state-funded program. Volusia County Schools offers both a school year VPK program and a Summer VPK program. Families may select either the school-year VPK program or the Summer VPK program but may not attend both programs.
The School Year VPK program is available to children who are four years old on or before September 1st of the current school year. The program will operate during regular school days and follow the district’s school-year calendar. Transportation is provided by the parent. Please view the Voluntary Prekindergarten School Year Program page for more information.
The Summer VPK program is available for students who did not attend a school year VPK program and will be attending kindergarten in the fall of the current school year. Transportation is provided by the parent. Please view the Voluntary Prekindergarten School Program Year page for more information.
Families are encouraged to contact The Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties to apply for the VPK Certificate of Eligibility (required for any VPK program).
