The Volusia Adaptive Assistive Technology Team (VAATT), provides support for students, parents and educators regarding the use and implementation of assistive technology.
Assistive Technology is defined in IDEA 2004 as "any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of a child with a disability."
VAATT Office Specialist

VAATT Visual Support Specialist
Phone: (386) 322-6100 ext. 38337
Universal Design is defined in IDEA 2004 as "universal design means a concept or philosophy for designing and delivering products and services that are usable by people with the widest possible range of functional capabilities, which include products and services that are directly usable - without requiring assistive technologies - and products and services that are made usable with assistive technologies."
Visual supports are used in classrooms to support behavior management programs and communication support systems. VAATT has uploaded pdf files of many frequently used visual supports so that teachers can access them quickly. Customized materials can still be requested by using the VAATT Visual Support Request form (this form is stored in VCS forms management and is accessible to VCS staff).
Core Vocabulary Communication Boards are now available for you to download and use in your classroom and can be found on the Visual Supports page.
For more resources and forms, go to the VCS VAATT intranet webpage (VCS staff).
