Book Reconsideration Committee
Volusia County Schools is conducting a reconsideration or review of 19 of its library books whose content has been informally challenged due to sexual content.
It is important to note that these books have not been banned. A final decision has not been made.
There will be book review committees that will conduct a formal review to recommend whether a book should be retained or removed from the district’s library collection.
A meeting schedule will be posted below. Meetings will be open to the public.

Library Book Review Committees
Each committee will have the following members, as described in VCS Policy 320.
- Chairperson of a School Advisory Committee or designee
- Media Specialist
- Curriculum Supervisor
- Two instructional staff members
- Three parents/citizens
The review by the committee shall be limited to determination as to whether the material violates the requirements of section 1006.28(2)(1)2.a or b.,Fla. Stat.
