A dedicated educator and transformative leader, Dr. Julio Nazario-Valle boasts an exceptional career driving student outcome through a relentless focus on achievement, data-driven reform, and innovative instructional strategies. Originally a math teacher from Chicago, Dr. Nazario-Valle relocated to Florida to pursue advanced leadership degrees while teaching and working as a college math professor.
Leveraging his skills as an empowering, collaborative change agent, Dr. Nazario-Valle orchestrated profound turnarounds as Principal in multiple high-needs schools. Most notably, he spear-headed the rapid transformation of a struggling 100% Title I middle school, increasing its grade in just one year. His proven model of hands-on leadership, candid data conversations and purposeful coaching uplifted teacher effectiveness and fostered a student-centered culture of high expectations.
Named Lead State Director for the FL Department of Education’s Bureau of School Improvement, Dr. Nazario-Valle oversaw statewide reform initiatives targeting chronically underperforming schools. Under his administration, over 50 schools exited state watchlists, 100% of F-schools improved, and 84% of struggling schools showed letter grade gains.
As Chief Academic Officer in Volusia County Schools, Dr. Nazario-Valle continues to engineer substantial advancement in student outcomes. His strategic vision elevates evidence-based practices while welcoming teacher voice and feedback. During his tenure, graduation rates have climbed an impressive 2.7 points to 91.6%, the number of A-rated schools more than doubled, and no elementary/middle schools declined a letter grade.
