School Choice Application

Volusia School District School Choice Application

The controlled open enrollment process allows parents and guardians to apply for their child to attend a public school outside of their regular attendance zone if the chosen school has not reached capacity. The Volusia County School District cannot guarantee placement at a specific school due to factors such as over-crowding, program placement, class size, etc.

Parents and guardians from any school in Volusia County can apply to enroll their child in a public school that has not reached capacity.

Open Enrollment for the 2025-2026 School Year will open January 7, 2025.

Parents can apply through Parent Portal.

In-District Students and New Applicants WITH a Parent Portal

Parents can log into their Focus Parent Portal. They can access it through our district website at www.vcsedu.org and select parents tab, then Parent Portal.

There they will find the application under the student information tab on the left-hand side column.

Select School Choice Variance Application.

In-District Students and New Applicants WITHOUT a Parent Portal

Parents will have to create a Parent Portal account. This portal will be used throughout your student’s academic career to provide a real-time view of your student’s grades, attendance, assessments, and important announcements.

Parents can visit our home page at www.vcsedu.org, select parents, then Parent Portal. A valid email address is needed to create your account and will become your username.

Click on create account, enter the parent information in all the required fields. Select I would like to apply for enrollment for a new child. Enter Students information then click begin application. Follow the instructions within the enrollment application to complete and submit.

Once you have completed the portal account, you will be able to select your student then select School Choice Variance Application.

Parents must complete a separate application for each student. The School District will notify each family through email from the School Choice Office.

We are accepting applications online through the Parent Portal account from January7th through March 1st. After the Window has closed, we will set up an online LATE application.

All applications are based on capacity at the requesting school.

If parents do not have access to the internet and need assistance in completing a paper application, School Choice office can assist if the student is currently enrolled in a Volusia County School. Paper applications will be available at the choice school, or you may email school choice for an application.

Open Enrollment for the 2024-2025 school choice is now closed.

You may still complete a late choice application, late choice applications may be placed on a waiting list until space becomes available. You can complete an application at the requested school by visiting your choice school and requesting a paper form and your choice school can send to the School Choice office, or you may download the application and submit to schoolchoice@groups.volusia.k12.fl.us

School Choice Application SY2024-2025

All Choice applications received after March 1, 2024, are considered late. While the School District of Volusia County makes every effort to accommodate a choice request, most schools are at or over capacity.

Students who were not selected in the Open enrollment window will have their application put on waitlist status. The applications are not declined.  When and if the school has space available, you will be contacted via email and offered a seat. If a student is not selected to attend a Choice program before the last day before winter break, a new application must be submitted for the following school year.  If a parent declines, then we will move to the next student in line. The waiting list does not roll to the following year, parents will have to re-apply during open enrollment.
