Good mental health is critical to a student’s success in school and life. Research suggests that students who receive mental health and social support shows, in addition to:
- Academic improvement
- Increase in self-image & resiliency skills
- Decrease in emotional distress
- Improved students’ sense of connectedness & well-being
Mental health is not simply the absence of mental illness but also encompasses emotional, and behavioral health and the ability to cope with life’s challenges. Left unmet, mental health problems are linked to costly negative outcomes such as academic and behavior problems, difficulties with relationships, dropping out, and delinquency.
