Homeless Non-Title I Schools (Title I, Part A)

Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal mandate, Title I is required to set aside funding that provides comparable educational opportunities, services, and resources to children and youth experiencing homelessness at non-Title I schools.

The McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act defines “homeless children and youth” as individuals that lack a fixed, regular, or adequate nighttime residence. Under state and federal law, students may receive access to public education from ages 21 and under and up to age 22 if placed in special education programs.
