Bus Operator Training Program
Individuals who decide to become a school bus operator must understand the important role and responsibility and safety while driving. You will be required to successfully complete a very comprehensive program implementing the rules and regulations governed by the Federal Government, Florida State Department, Department of transportation, as well as local policies.
Our training encompasses the development and delivery of skill-building, compliance-based, and professional development programs for all departmental staff and school-based personnel.
If an applicant is ready with a CDL class A or B license with the Passenger and School bus endorsement he/she will move to Phase one training.
All applicants must obtain a CDL class A or B permit to begin training. CDL class A or B with P & S permit is required if an applicant does not already have a CDL class A or B Passenger School bus endorsement license,
How to obtain a CDL permit: Obtain a medical certificate from a DOT Department of Transportation certified physician.
Schedule an appointment with the Department of Motor Vehicle -DMV to take the 4-part exam which includes.

*Air brakes
*Passenger
*School bus
Phase One- DOE-Department of Education course requirement- Basic School Bus Curriculum Training. The course will ensure that each trainee obtains minimum proficiency concerning roles, responsibilities, laws, regulations and policies pertaining to transporting passengers on a school bus.
Phase 2- Classroom-to-driving. On-the-Road Training Course required by the Florida's State Department of Education (DOE), Basic School Bus Operator Training Curriculum. This portion allows the trainee a supervised transition from the classroom to driving in a controlled training environment. This will include observing and driving in the working conditions of a Bus Operator without students. Trainees learn and practice every skill associated with transporting students on a Broward County School Bus.
Phase 3- Trainee must demonstrate to the CDL state examiner the ability to successfully complete all requirements to receive the Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) of Volusia County School District.
Phase 4- Trainee will receive continued driving & mentorship alongside an experienced bus operator with students until he/she is demonstrating proficiency to drive alone.
