It is very important that ALL substitutes are aware of Florida Statute 1002.83(14) and how it impacts substitute teachers. Volusia County Schools sends a list of currently eligible substitute teachers to the Early Learning Coalition as required in the statutes. Please note that you may not be exempt from this list, however, you can refuse the position should you be called.

Are you a Substitute Teacher possessing a Florida 5-year Professional Teaching Certificate?

If so, you may be able to earn in-service points through VCS for the purpose of recertification.

Substituting at Charter Schools

Charter Schools have an increased need for substitute teachers. Charter Schools are unable to use the SEMS system. Therefore, all phone calls will be completed manually by the Charter Schools if they are in need of a substitute. You may contact or visit each charter school directly also. Should you be called, you may refuse requests from Charter Schools. Please note that the payroll systems at each Charter School are separate from the Volusia County Schools payroll system. In addition the rate of pay may vary from Charter to Charter.
