Volusia READS!
Volusia READS! was started as a district-wide book club in the fall of 2014 in which over 300 teachers, administrators and district staff participated. During the 2014-15 school year, Volusia READS! participants read The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way by Amanda Ripley and Teaching Outside the Box: How to Grab Your Students By Their Brains by Louanne Johnson. We used a blended format that included face-to-face discussions as well as Twitter book chats. Both study groups ended with an interactive Skype chat with each of the authors!
The interest and excitement for Volusia READS! continues as many schools, departments, teacher leaders and administrators have launched their own book study groups using the same format. Please see below the guidelines and resources that have been provided by the Professional Learning office to assist in implementing successful book study groups.
A Master In-Service Plan component is now available for district book studies. The component is 2408056 Volusia Reads! Book Study. Please select this component if you are creating a book study for staff.
Guidelines for conducting Volusia READs! book studies have also been created. Please use these guidelines when planning and conducting your book study.
