Ms. Heard

Ms. Anika Heard

Ms. Anika Heard is a product of Volusia County Schools graduating from Mainland Senior High School. Ms. Heard brings her passion for culinary and 23 years of expertise from the Food and Nutrition sector into teaching. She started working at Ormond Beach Middle School in November 2018. The aroma of excitement seeps into the hallway from her classroom. As you enter the lab, it feels like she has been teaching for years. Anika loves the subject matter and it is evident in all that she does. The instructor delivers fascinating and exciting lessons on baking sugar cookies and pink lemonade.  Lessons are not just about baking and cooking; instead, they include ELA standards, the word wall and Project-Based Learning. Heard supports diverse learners, such as visual scholars and learners with executive functioning issues, by using colors which makes connecting to content easier. The facilitator flavors and sprinkles in current events, such as how the government shutdown prevented meat inspections by the USDA. Lively discussions on the topic ensued, and some continued the conversations over dinner with parents, guardians and extended family. You might be asking yourself, when did Anika's love for culinary start? It was ignited in her Home Economics classes at Holly Hill Junior High School and has continued! Please join us in welcoming Ms. Anika Heard to the CTE family.
