The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. As a reminder, all schools and district offices will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10, due to Hurricane Milton. In addition, VCS has decided to extend closures through Friday, Oct. 11. All after-school activities and athletic events on these days are canceled.
We have continued to work closely with Volusia County Emergency Management to monitor the storm’s progress. Hurricane Milton is expected to arrive later than originally forecasted, bringing potential flooding, storm surge, high winds, and a risk of tornadoes. The closure on Friday allows extra time to ensure safer conditions and assess roads and schools for readiness.
We anticipate returning to our regular school calendar on Monday, Oct. 14, which is a pre-scheduled teacher duty day/student holiday. Additionally, grading period 1 will now end on Oct. 17, 2024, and grading period 2 will now begin on Oct. 18, 2024. Information will be communicated in the future about making up these instructional days.
Families and staff should continue to stay tuned to their emails, texts, VCS social media, and the VCS Storm Resource Center webpage (www.vcsedu.org/community/storm-resource-center) for further updates that may impact operations.
