Volusia County Schools Storm Resource Center
Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. In the case of a hurricane, the District encourages parents students and staff to monitor the Volusia County Emergency Management Information page and the NOAA National Hurricane Center for the most updated and accurate information. Now is the time to get ready for hurricane season.
Volusia County Schools works directly with the National Hurricane Center, Florida Department of Emergency Management and Volusia County Emergency Management to monitor hurricane activity.
The following school locations have capacity:
- Hinson Middle School
- Heritage Middle School for the Special Needs, Medically Fragile population only.
- Creekside Middle School
University High School is closed.
All shelters are pet friendly.

All Volusia Public Schools and Administrative Offices Will Be Closed for Two Days due to Tropical Storm Nicole
Schools To Be Closed Wednesday, November 9, 2022, and Thursday, November 10, 2022
All Volusia district public schools will be closed for two days (November 9th and 10th) due to Tropical Storm Nicole. There will be no school-sponsored activities during the two days schools and administrative offices are closed. No Volusia School District employee should report to work on Wednesday or Thursday unless directed by their supervisor.
Superintendent Balgobin is in constant communication with the Volusia County Emergency Management Center regarding the impending storm. Shelters will be open by 10:00 am tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9th at the following school locations: Hinson Middle School and Heritage Middle School for the Special Needs, Medically Fragile population only. Creekside Middle School and University High School for the general population. All shelters are pet friendly. The two days of instruction missed due to the storm will be made up during the second semester of the school year. Friday, November 11th is a Holiday. All schools and district offices are closed.
