Air Conditioning, Refrigeration And Heating (HVAC) Technology

The content in the Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Technology (HVACR) program includes but is not limited to designing, testing and repairing heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and cooling (HVAC) systems.  The purpose of the program is to prepare students for employment or advanced training in the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration industry. The student should obtain EPA certification prior to leaving school in order to be employed in any job that requires work with refrigerants.  This program offers a sequence of courses that provide opportunities for developing technical skill proficiency, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills.

Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC)

AFJROTC provides citizenship training and an Aerospace Science program for high school students. Secondary school students who enroll in the AFJROTC program are offered a wide variety of curricular and co-curricular activities. The program explores the historic and scientific aspects of aerospace technology and teaches high school students self-reliance, self-discipline, and other leadership characteristics. AFJROTC objectives are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship and life skills, promote community service, instill a sense of responsibility and develop character, leadership and self-discipline through education and instruction in air and space fundamentals and the Air Force’s core values of Integrity First, Service Before Self and Excellence in All We Do. By Title 10 United States Code, the program is a citizenship program and not chartered as a recruiting program for the military services. Those students who participate in AFJROTC do not incur any military obligation.

Carpentry

The purpose of the Carpentry program program is to prepare students for employment opportunities in the carpentry industry with an emphasis on learning fundamental carpentry skills.  The content includes but is not limited to developing rough and finish carpentry skills.  This program prepares students to enter the construction industry as an apprentice (carpenter's helper) to assist journeyman carpenters to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials. Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC)

The U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) is one of the largest character development and citizenship programs for youth. The National Defense Act of 1916 established organized JROTC programs at public and private educational institutions. The curriculum is rigorous and relevant to 21st century education. The curriculum aligns with Career and Technical Education clusters. Cadets learn and apply the curriculum using technology in the classroom. JROTC’s mission, “To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens”, is the guidepost for the program’s success. As JROTC students (Cadets) progress through the program, they experience opportunities to lead other Cadets. On The Job Training (OJT)

The purpose of this course is to provide the on-the-job training component when the cooperative method of instruction is appropriate.  Whenever the cooperative method is offered, the following is required for each student:  a training agreement; a training plan signed by the student, teacher and employer, including instructional objectives; a list of on-the-job and in-school learning experiences; a workstation which reflects equipment, skills and tasks which are relevant to the occupation which the student has chosen as a career goal; and a site supervisor with a working knowledge of the selected occupation.  The workstation may be in an industry setting or in a virtual learning environment.  The student must be compensated for work performed.

Principles of Teaching

In the Principles of Teaching program students focus on the profession of teaching and related careers including history, purposes, issues, ethics, laws and regulations, roles, and qualifications. Emphasis is placed on identifying the current, historical, philosophical and social perspectives of American education, including trends and issues; the nature of human development from conception through adolescence; and knowledge and skills of curriculum delivery models in response to the developmental needs of all children. During the program students will participate in guided observations and field experiences in multiple settings and will develop a working educational portfolio to be assembled upon completion of the program.
