Volusia County Schools earns back-to-back “A” district grade
VCS has demonstrated consistent growth over the past five years, rising 9 percentage points from 57 in 2022 to 66 percentage points and 797 total points, the highest in district history.
Earning an “A” rating for the second year in a row is a proud, historic moment for Volusia County. It’s the first time in district history we've earned back-to-back “A” ratings, and it truly took a village.

Welcome to Volusia County Schools! Your First Stop: New Teacher Academy Preservice
Congratulations on joining the Volusia County Schools team! As you prepare for an exciting new school year, your journey begins with New Teacher Academy Preservice.
This engaging two-day experience is designed to help you start the year with confidence by introducing you to district resources, instructional best practices, and fellow educators. Whether you're brand new to teaching or bringing experience from another district, this experience is designed to ensure you feel prepared, supported, and connected before students arrive.
All new instructional hires for the 2026–2027 school year are required to attend, including those hired into temporary instructional positions on or after January 6, 2026.
Preservice: July 27–28, 2026
Location: Mainland High School | 1255 W. International Speedway Blvd. | Daytona Beach
Your onboarding experience also includes:
- Youth Mental Health First Aid – July 29 (This is a required training for all educators. If you don’t complete this training on July 29, there will be opportunities throughout the year that will require a full-day substitute for your classroom.)
- Campus Day – August 3 at your assigned school (Attendance is required.)

Graduation rates are in!
The Florida Department of Education released high school graduation rates today, and we are thrilled to share that our overall rate has increased once again! For the Class of 2025, Volusia County Schools’ graduation rate increased by 1.9 percentage points from 93.7% in 2023-2024 to 95.6% in 2024-2025.
Highlights include:
- Volusia County’s graduation rate increased for the third consecutive year.
- Spruce Creek High School had the highest graduation rate at 99.5%.
- T. Dewitt Taylor Middle-High School's graduation rate rose by 9.4 points, from 89.8% in 2023-2024 to 99.2% in 2024-2025.
This achievement reflects the incredible dedication of our students, educators, and families.
VCS 2027 Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Erika Kazma, a physical education teacher from R.J. Longstreet Elementary School in Daytona Beach, has been named Volusia County Schools' 2027 Teacher of the Year. She was selected from 70 nominees representing schools countywide and was one of five finalists for the district award. Kazma will now represent Volusia in the state Teacher of the Year program.
