VCS Invites Public to Review Instructional Materials Under Consideration

DELAND – Volusia County Schools has initiated the process for adopting new instructional materials (textbooks) and is seeking public review and input on the instructional materials under consideration. This school year, the state of Florida’s materials adoption focuses on Mathematics for kindergarten through 12th grade.

The public can access the potential instructional materials online or see them at three public meetings scheduled for Oct. 7, 11, 28, 2021. The deadline to provide comment is Nov. 5. The selected final choice will be available for the public to view Nov. 17, 2021. 

The public meetings will be held:

  • 5:30 - 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at DeLand High School F.A.C.T. Fair in Gym, 800 N. Hill Avenue, DeLand, FL 32724
  • 9 a.m. - noon Monday, Oct. 11, at DeLand Administrative Complex Main Lobby, 200 N. Clara Avenue, DeLand, FL 32720. 
  • 5 - 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Mainland High School Auditorium, 1255 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. (Enter the Auditorium lobby off the front parking lot.)
  • 5:30 – 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Campbell Middle School F.A.C.T. Fair in Gym, 625 S. Keech Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. (Final choice viewing)

The public may also view the potential materials online by visiting for links and passwords. 

The Instructional Materials Department strives to provide VCS students, schools, and faculties with the highest quality of instructional materials to meet the district’s educational goals and support 21st century teaching and learning. VCS follows all state and district guidelines, procedures, and policies in choosing the best materials possible. It is the Instructional Materials Department’s goal to affect student achievement in the highest way possible.

Following the public review, Volusia County Schools plans to adopt new instructional materials for Mathematics in spring 2022. Those materials would be used starting with the 2022-2023 school year.
